Meet Andrea Bastiani Archibald, Ph.D. and developmental psychologist, the Chief Girl and Family Engagement Officer for Girl Scouts of the USA. In this position, she helps develop and implement national strategic initiatives to effectively serve girls and their families.  She serves as a national spokesperson on girls’ and women’s leadership development, parenting and family dynamics, cultural influences such as economics, social media and pop culture, gender issues, current events, and demographic shifts in the national girl population.

I’m so thrilled to share with you something that I’m super passionate about: cultivating girls’ interest in STEM. According to recent findings from our Girl Scout Research Institute’s Generation STEM: What Girls Say about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math we know that

92 Percent of Girls Interested in STEM Fields
Believe They Are Smart Enough to Have a Career in STEM

However, we also know that women continue to be underrepresented in these fields. That’s why we are so excited to partner with Discovery Education to bring girl-powered programming outside of Girl Scouts and straight into the hands of educators like you through a new program Girls Get STEM: Unleash Your Inner Scientist – a national initiative to spark girls’ interest in STEM!

We are kicking off our work with an adventure for all students on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT. This virtual field trip is focused on the important topic of Citizen Science and will show students how they can use the scientific method to help build a better world.

Register Today for a Girl-Led Virtual Field Trip!

This topic is critical, as our research tells us that girls want to help change the world but don’t always see how they can do this and help people through a STEM career. Citizen Science harnesses the power of kids to collaborate and help solve real-world problems by engaging students in opportunities to help collect and analyze data to help professional scientists. We believe this topic can cement the power of STEM for all students and inspire a passion in kids for careers in these fields!

Join Us as We Inspire Kids to Take Positive Actions
Through STEM in Their Classrooms and Communities

Join us as we explore a sprawling 92-acre camp that has been transformed into a living STEM laboratory on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT and be part of the conversation online during a LIVE Twitter Chat using #CitizenScientistVFT.

P.S. Have girls who are feeling inspired after viewing the virtual field trip? Share with their parents how they can join Girl Scouts to take part in some of our 30 new STEM programs aimed to prepare girls to address some of society’s most pressing needs through hands-on learning in cybersecurity, environmental advocacy, mechanical engineering, robotics, computer science, and space exploration.
