Tundra Connections: Back To Polar Bear Basics – Grades K-3

Polar bears are an awesome sum of their parts: fur, teeth, claws, and fat. It may seem basic but the details are fascinating. Help your students understand this incredible bear and its habits using the virtual field trip and supporting resources in Discovery Education.

Tundra Connections Virtual Field Trip
Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, Virtual Field Trip

Be sure to RSVP and #CelebratewithDE as we return to Churchill, Manitoba, Canada for the annual polar bear migration. Since 2010, Discovery Education has teamed up with Polar Bears International to bring students a series of webcasts during the annual polar bear migration. Find out about these extraordinary animals and learn more about our favorite big white bear, its habits and more.

Instructional Idea: Polar Presentations

Use the video Polar Bears: By the Numbers as a model, and have students use images to create original presentations of new knowledge. Encourage students to form small research teams, like those you’ll see in the virtual field trip, to plan and complete a narrated presentation using the strategy Puppet Pictures(Canadian Version), from our Spotlight on Strategies series. With original illustrations or existing images from Discovery Education – and possibly Flat Nanuk as the puppet narrator – these presentations are sure to be extra cool. Post your results using @DiscoveryEd and hashtag #CelebrateWithDE.
