Have students expand the conversation about the remarkable people in the resources above by participating in a round or two of XO Let’s Go (Canadian Version). In this strategy, students take turns sharing information they learned from the media and listening intently to each other to ensure comprehension. Have students focus on the accomplishments of the historical figures, the characteristics that helped them succeed, the way society has benefitted from their actions and work – or all three. Once they’ve completed their discussions, have them collaborate to distill some of their thoughts about these contributions and the ways they’ve shaped society using the strategy 6 Word Story (Canadian Version) or another summary tool.
